WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?
Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct healing science and philosophy that blends traditional natural therapies with current advances in the study of human health.

Naturopathic Medicine treats the underlying cause of disease. It is the art and science of supporting the natural healing process of the patient and the removal of any impediment to the healing process. It involves the prevention and treatment of physical and mental diseases, disorders and conditions, as well as the promotion of good health, using not only the natural healing process, but also methods that support and enhance the patient’s overall health.

TRAINING
Naturopathic Physicians complete 4 years of post secondary education, then 4 years of post graduate education at an accredited Naturopathic School. Naturopathic Doctors are also required to complete hours in a clinic setting and mandatory preceptor hours with practicing doctors.

After completing academic and practical training, a licensing exam is written. This exam is universal across North America. The Doctor must then complete provincial exams before being licensed. Naturopathic doctors are also required to attend continuing education seminars every year.

TREATMENTS
Almost all acute and chronic conditions may benefit from naturopathic treatment. Medical emergencies are referred to the local hospital.

Some or all of the following treatments may be provided to you:

  • Preventive Medicine
  • Nutritional Medicine
  • Botanical or Herbal Medicine
  • Homeopathic Medicine
  • Manipulation & Physical Medicine
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
  • Psychological Counselling

WHAT TO EXPECT
Naturopathic Physicians gather information on a client's current health condition as well as conduct a comprehensive health history which may involve a physical exam and the use of standard diagnostic instruments and laboratory tests. A client profile is developed including details on lifestyle such as dietary habits, exercise, emotional stress and exposure to environmental hazards.

ADVANTAGES OF NATUROPATHIC CARE
The goal of naturopathic physicians is to develop a thorough understanding of your health needs. With a careful approach, the underlying source of illness can be treated, and more importantly, the use of treatments are highly individualized per patient.
